After the birth of Baby

After how many days we should cut the hair of a baby after birth?

Answer:

"And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, leave it. And fear Allah: truly Allah is severe in punishment. " [Qur'an 59:7]

When the baby(male or female) is born, the things which need to be done includes, shaving head, sacrifice, assigning name.

Narrated Samurah ibn Jundub: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: A boy is in pledge for his Aqiqah, Sacrifice is made for him on the seventh day, his head is shaved and he is given name. ABU-DAWUD[Book 15 : Hadith 2832]

The sacrifice for a male child is two sheep’s/goats and one sheep/goat for a female child. The Aqiqa is the responsibility of the parents, if they did not perform it due to whatever reasons, on the 7th (seventh day) of birth, then there is no need of doing it later. If a believer does offer the sacrifice as a form of gratitude to his Merciful Creator, there is a huge reward, and if one does not offer it, there is no sin.

Yahya related to me from Malikfrom Jafar ibn Muhammad that his father said, "Fatima, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, weighed the hair of Hasan, Husayn, Zaynab and Umm Kulthum, and gave away in sadaqa an equivalent weight of silver." MALIK MUWATTA[Book 26 : Hadith 26.1.2]

Yahya related to me from Malik from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman that Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn said, "Fatima, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, weighed the hair of Hasan and Husayn, and gave away in sadaqa the equivalent weight in silver." MALIK MUWATTA [Book 26 : Hadith 26.1.3]

After the aqiqa on the 7th day, assign a good name to the baby, and shave the head of the baby and give silver as charity ( sadqa) of the weight of the hair.
